What: Battle of the Books
When: Every other Tuesday starting 10/3-4/30 (Tuesdays the club WILL meet: 10/3 , 10/24, 11/7, 11/28, 12/12, 1/16, 1/30, 2/13, 2/27, 3/5, 3/12, 3/19, 3/26, 4/9, 4/16, 4/23, 4/30) from 3:15pm-4:15pm *The winning 5th grade team will need to attend the evening district battle in April (date TBD).
Where: Mr. Pickens' room #F113. Mrs. VanHorn, Mrs. Triplett, and Mr. Heath will be there too!
Why: This district program encourages kids to read by offering them exciting, friendly competition based on their knowledge of a group of books. The goal of the program is to encourage the interactive reading of excellent children's fiction and discussion of these books by teams of 4 to 6 children. Students read at least 5 of the 10 books by the end of March, discuss them, and then compete in teams to answer questions based on the books in a "quiz show" format. The winning STEM Lab team will compete against winning teams from other elementary schools in the district.
