Battle of the Books (4th&5th)

Who:  4th&5th grades

What:  Battle of the Books

When:  Every OTHER Tuesday starting 11/1 from 3:20pm-4:00pm.  Will meet EVERY Tuesday beginning in March.  Excluding 11/8, 11/22, 12/6, 1/3, 1/17, 1/31, 2/14, 2/28.  Last day of club is 4/24.  *The winning 5th grade team will need to attend the evening district battle in April (date TBD).

Where:  Mrs. Thieme's room #F113.  Mrs. VanHorn, Mr. Pickens, and Mrs. Trujillo will be there too!

Why:  This district program encourages kids to read by offering them exciting, friendly competition based on their knowledge of a group of books.  The goal of the program is to encourage the interactive reading of excellent children's fiction and discussion of these books by teams of 4 to 6 children.  Students read at least 5 of the 10 books by the end of March, discuss them, and then compete in teams to answer questions based on the books in a "quiz show" format.  The winning STEM Lab team will compete against winning teams from other elementary schools in the district.

How:  Sign up HERE.

*A $10 fee will be assigned to the student's account for a Battle of the Books t-shirt.  To pay the fee, go to www.PayForIt.net.
