Summer 2018 Theme: Information: Possibilities & Pitfalls
Dawson Summer Initiative is a tuition-free program that provides enriching opportunities annually for high-achieving public middle school students from Boulder County and surrounding areas to embark on an in-depth exploration of an annual theme. Dawson Summer Initiative is underwritten by the Alexander Dawson Foundation and takes place in June and July on Dawson’s campus in Lafayette.
During the summer, enrolled students (“scholars”) have the opportunity to work with similarly motivated and like-minded peers and are given the knowledge, tools and flexibility to pursue real-world concepts in a dynamic environment. The thematic five-week summer session allows students from over 30 different schools the time and space to focus on one central issue, and to work with leaders in the field to develop pertinent solutions. In past summers, scholars have explored themes such as Water, Epidemic, Energy, Food, Climate, Transportation, the Digital Revolution, and Innovation.
Those who successfully complete the previous summer’s thematic session may then attend a two-week Leadership session the following summer. Academic Advising is available through high school, helping scholars and their families with the process of selecting high schools, courses, and colleges.
