The 2019-2020 school year begins Mr. Shields 19th year in education. He began his career at Thornton High School as a science teacher and spent his first eight years teaching chemistry, biology, physics, earth science, integrated science, health and his all-time favorite ocean marine biology. From there he accepted a position at Thornton High as dean of students and served in the position for two years. He was then honored to be selected as the Assistant Principal of Athletics, Activities and Special Programs. He served in this role for two years before being given the opportunity to move to elementary/K-8 level. He has served the STEM Lab community for the last six years as Assistant Principal.
On a personal note, he is privileged to have a wonderful wife and three happy, healthy and beautiful children. He earned his undergraduate degree at The University of Northern Colorado (GO BEARS!) and each of his Masters degrees from the University of Phoenix. He is a diehard Denver Broncos fan and supports all of the local professional and collegiate teams.
